Tusker ‘Sapumal’ Shot and Critically Injured in Kaudulla National Park
The tusker ‘Sapumal’, a well-known elephant from Hurulu Eco Park and Minneriya National Park, has reportedly been shot by unidentified individuals.

Safari jeep drivers in Kaudulla National Park confirmed sightings of the injured animal, Ada Derana reported.
‘Sapumal’, estimated to be around 25 years old, is distinguished by his tusks measuring more than two and a half feet. According to reports, the elephant sustained two gunshot wounds on his front right leg. Tourists who spotted the tusker stated that pus was seen oozing from below the knee, indicating severe infection.
The tusker is said to be in critical condition and urgently requires veterinary treatment. Visitors yesterday (22) recorded footage of ‘Sapumal’ limping near the Kaudulla tank, highlighting the gravity of his injuries.
