Kylian Mbappe Tops FIFA World Cup 2026 Golden Boot Race After France Beat Morocco
Kylian Mbappe has regained the lead in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Golden Boot race after scoring in France’s 2-0 victory over Morocco, helping the defending champions book their place in the tournament’s semi-finals.

The French forward had briefly moved ahead of Lionel Messi in the race for the tournament’s top scorer after finding the net against Paraguay. However, the Argentine captain drew level once again by scoring the equaliser in Argentina’s match against Egypt.
Mbappe restored his advantage by scoring against Morocco, taking his tally to eight goals in the tournament.
Although both Mbappe and Messi are tied on eight goals, the Real Madrid forward currently leads the Golden Boot standings thanks to his three assists, compared to Messi’s one assist, which serves as the first tiebreaker under FIFA regulations.
France’s victory also brought an end to Morocco’s impressive World Cup campaign. The African side once again exceeded expectations with another historic run before being eliminated in the quarter-finals.
With the semi-finals approaching, the battle between Mbappe and Messi for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Golden Boot is expected to intensify as both stars continue their pursuit of football’s prestigious individual scoring award.
