Colombo, July 25 (Daily Mirror) — The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has launched an investigation into the circulation of a forged document falsely attributed to the Acting Inspector General of Police, which has been widely shared across WhatsApp and other social media platforms.

According to police, the document—circulated in PDF format—appears to mimic official police correspondence but is entirely fraudulent. Authorities confirmed that the document had been disseminated using several unauthorized and unverified email addresses, including:

Police clarified that none of these email addresses are linked to the Sri Lanka Police or any legitimate government agency.

The CID is currently working to trace the origin of the forged communication and determine the motives behind its distribution. Law enforcement has urged the public to exercise caution and avoid spreading unverified or suspicious content found online.
