Apple Releases iOS 26 and New OS Updates with “Liquid Glass” Redesign

Apple has rolled out iOS 26, along with updated operating systems for Mac, iPad, Apple Watch, and Apple TV. For the first time, all platforms share the same version number, reflecting Apple’s new policy of naming updates after the year following release.

The most notable feature of iOS 26 and its companion updates is the new “Liquid Glass” design. This fresh look transforms app icons, notifications, menus, and system labels into a semi-transparent, glass-like interface. The goal, Apple says, is to make devices feel like a simple slab of glass that highlights user content while keeping interface elements subtle.

Controversial New Look

While the design is visually striking, it has sparked debate. During the summer beta program, some users criticized the aesthetics, while several developers argued that the redesign introduced bugs and compatibility issues with their apps.

New Features in iOS 26

Beyond the cosmetic overhaul, Apple has added new intelligence-driven tools and practical features:

  • Smart Call Handling: The Phone app can now automatically answer and filter potential scam calls.
  • AI Enhancements: The system offers automatic translation and contextual recommendations for restaurants, landmarks, and travel destinations.
  • Unified Design Language: Updates across all devices ensure consistency whether on iPhone, Mac, or Apple Watch.

How to Update

Users can install iOS 26 and other Apple OS updates by heading to Settings → General → Software Update. The rollout is available globally starting today.
