Officials of India’s Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) have seized drugs worth approximately Rs. 500 million that were illegally transported from Colombo to Bengaluru.

NCB officials stated that 45.4 kg of hydroponic cannabis and 6 kg of psilocybin mushrooms were seized from their possession.

The operation was launched after receiving specific intelligence about hydroponic cannabis being smuggled from Thailand to Bengaluru. Following the alert, authorities intensified checks at the Bengaluru International Airport.

On October 9, two passengers arriving from Colombo were detained, leading to the discovery of 31.4 kg of hydro cannabis and 4 kg of psilocybin mushrooms. Based on the information obtained during their interrogation, a Sri Lankan national, identified as the handler, was later arrested upon arrival on another Colombo–Bengaluru flight, carrying an additional 14 kg of hydro cannabis and 2 kg of psilocybin mushrooms.

The drugs had been concealed in around 250 food tins and tightly sealed to avoid detection, officials confirmed.
