Duminda Dissanayake Released from Gold-Plated T-56 Case Due to Lack of Evidence
Duminda Dissanayake Released from Gold-Plated T-56 Case
Former Minister Duminda Dissanayake has been released from the gold-plated T-56 case, according to a ruling by the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court. The court cited a lack of sufficient evidence to proceed with the case involving the discovery of a gold-plated T-56 firearm at an apartment in Havelock Town.

The case drew public attention after the rare and suspiciously adorned firearm was recovered earlier this year. Dissanayake was linked to the incident, prompting a legal inquiry.
However, during the latest court session, the prosecution failed to provide concrete evidence connecting the former minister directly to the weapon. As a result, the Magistrate ordered that Dissanayake be discharged from the case.
Authorities have not disclosed whether the investigation will continue in other directions or whether additional suspects are being questioned.
