Police Warn of Fake Calls Using Names of Senior Officers in Colombo

Sri Lanka Police have issued a warning after receiving information about organized scam groups operating in Colombo, who are impersonating senior police officers to deceive institutions.

According to the Police Media Division, these individuals have contacted tourist hotels and private institutions, requesting food, funds, or other assistance for alleged official events while falsely using the names and designations of senior police officers.

Police said investigations have been launched into the fraudulent activities.

Authorities have urged all institutions and members of the public not to be misled by such calls, warning that organized groups are misusing the identities of senior officers to carry out scams.

The public has been requested to immediately report any suspicious calls or provide information related to such incidents to the nearest police station. Complaints can also be directed to the Senior Superintendent of Police – Colombo Central via 071 8591551.
