Fatal Omanthai Accident Claims Two Lives, Several Injured

At least two people were killed and more than ten others injured in a tragic accident this evening (17) on the A-9 road in Omanthai, police confirmed.

The victims were relatives from the Vishwamadhu area who had been returning home after attending a funeral in Kandy.

According to police, the SUV they were traveling in overturned near a filling station close to the Omanthai Police Station. Several passengers were thrown out of the vehicle and collided with an oncoming lorry during the crash.

Reports indicate that 15 people were inside the SUV at the time of the accident. A 33-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man died instantly, while the others sustained various injuries.

The injured were rushed to the District General Hospital in Vavuniya for treatment. Hospital sources confirmed that three of the victims remain in critical condition.

Authorities are conducting further investigations into the incident.
