Indian and Sri Lankan Textile Industries to Boost Trade Cooperation
The Powerloom Development Export Promotion Council (PDEXCIL) aims to strengthen trade ties between Indian and Sri Lankan textile industries for sustainable, long-term collaboration, according to chairman K. Sakthivel.

A delegation of Indian fabric exporters recently visited Sri Lanka to enhance bilateral textile trade and foster industry partnerships. Mr. Sakthivel, recognised for his decade-long participation in Intex South Asia, led discussions with Sri Lankan textile importers, garment manufacturers, and trade associations. Talks focused on increasing sourcing of Indian fabrics and made-ups, building direct B2B links, participating in trade fairs, improving logistics, and expanding market access.
The delegation met with Sri Lanka’s Minister of Industries to explore joint ventures, skill development programs, knowledge-sharing initiatives, and sustainable textile practices. They also met the Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, presenting the strength and diversity of India’s textile sector, especially in powerloom and home textile products.
Key members of the team included Chandrasekar, vice chairman of PDEXCIL, Bharath Chhajer, Export Panel Convener, and senior members of the Fabric Exporters Association representing India’s leading exporters.
