Kaushal Silva Appointed Head Coach of Hong Kong Cricket Team
Former Sri Lanka wicketkeeper-batter Kaushal Silva has been named the new head coach of the Hong Kong national cricket team. This marks his first time leading an international side.

Silva, 39, featured in 39 Test matches for Sri Lanka between 2011 and 2018. Since retiring in 2019, he has gained coaching experience in Sri Lanka, England, and Australia. His impressive first-class record includes 13,932 runs and 41 centuries across 209 matches, with three centuries at the Test level.
Cricket Hong Kong, China, announced the appointment, stating that Silva’s coaching philosophy aligns with the board’s vision. Chairperson Burji Shroff expressed confidence in Silva’s ability to raise both the competitive level of the team and the sport’s popularity locally.
“Kaushal’s dedication to talent development resonates with our mission. We believe he can help uplift our team’s performance and inspire the cricket community in Hong Kong,” Shroff said in a statement.
Silva emphasized his focus on building a strong work ethic and a winning mindset within the squad. He also plans to scout and nurture emerging talent to ensure long-term success.
Hong Kong recently finished as runners-up in the Asia Pacific Cricket Champions Trophy, losing to Malaysia in the final. Under Silva’s leadership, the team will prepare for the T20 Asia Cup, where they will compete in Group B against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
