Postal Strike Continues for Fifth Day Despite Public Inconvenience

The postal strike in Sri Lanka has entered its fifth consecutive day today (22), causing disruptions to services across the country.

Police protection has been deployed to the Colombo Central Mail Exchange amid the ongoing trade union action.

Unions Refuse Talks Under Minister’s Conditions

Despite increasing public inconvenience, postal trade unions have refused to engage in discussions to end the strike under the conditions proposed by Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa.

Addressing Parliament yesterday (21), Minister Jayatissa reiterated that the government will not reverse its decisions regarding the fingerprint attendance system and overtime payments for postal workers.

Strike Based on 19 Demands

The strike, which began at midnight on the 17th, is based on 19 key demands, according to union representatives. The trade union action is set to continue further unless a resolution is reached.
