President Anura Kumara Dissanayake Meets UN Secretary-General in New York
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who is in New York to attend the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, met UN Secretary-General António Guterres at the UN Headquarters on September 25.
According to the Presidential Media Division (PMD), Secretary-General Guterres warmly welcomed President Dissanayake before the two leaders held a cordial discussion.

During the meeting, President Dissanayake outlined the progress of Sri Lanka’s ongoing economic reforms and highlighted key government initiatives aimed at strengthening the country’s economic, social, and political development.
In response, Secretary-General Guterres commended the government’s progressive programme and assured the United Nations’ full cooperation in supporting Sri Lanka’s future development.
The discussions were also attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath, Sri Lanka’s Permanent Representative to the UN and former Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya PC, along with senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
