SLPP Warns Thisakutti Arachchi Over Controversial Remarks | Today News
Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) General Secretary and Attorney-at-Law Sagara Kariyawasam has issued a strong warning to former Parliamentarian Thisakutti Arachchi, urging him to avoid making irresponsible statements at public meetings.

The warning was reportedly delivered over the phone after Arachchi’s recent remarks sparked concerns within the party leadership. He has also been summoned to appear at the SLPP office tomorrow (25) for further discussions.
The controversy stems from a speech made in Anuradhapura, where Arachchi stated:
“The day Namal Rajapaksa becomes President of this country, I will be the unofficial president. I am his closest friend and confidant, but that does not give me the right to demand anything. When the Anuradhapura district records the highest percentage of votes in Sri Lanka, all I need to do is inform him that the people of Anuradhapura have supported him. Then he should reciprocate by serving the people of Anuradhapura.”
Party sources revealed that the SLPP leadership viewed the remarks as potentially damaging and unnecessary, leading to Kariyawasam’s direct intervention.
The party is expected to address the matter further following Arachchi’s meeting at the headquarters.
