Sri Lanka Plans to Repay US$1 Billion in Foreign Debt This Year

The Ministry of Finance has announced that Sri Lanka has made arrangements to repay US$1 billion in foreign debt during this year.

According to the Ministry, Sri Lanka also paid US$1 billion in foreign debt installments last year, as the government continues efforts to maintain financial stability and meet international debt obligations.

Government Revenue Exceeds Targets

The Ministry of Finance said that government revenue collection has shown positive progress, with the Inland Revenue Department, Sri Lanka Customs, and the Excise Department recording collections exceeding their expected targets during the period elapsed this year.

The Ministry stated that the increase in revenue has provided significant support towards strengthening the country’s economic stability.

Focus on Increasing State Revenue

The government has prepared plans to further improve revenue collection during the final quarters of the year by exceeding existing targets.

The Ministry of Finance said strengthening government income remains a key priority as Sri Lanka continues its economic recovery programme while managing foreign debt commitments.

Officials noted that improved revenue performance will help support financial management, public expenditure planning, and the country’s overall economic stability.
