Striking Postal Workers to Lose Salaries, Says Postmaster General
Postmaster General Ruwan Sathkumara announced that postal employees currently engaged in the strike will not receive their monthly salaries.

He confirmed that official letters have been sent to striking workers, instructing them to report for duty immediately if they wish to secure their payments. Relevant trade unions have also been formally notified.
Financial Losses from Postal Strike
According to Sathkumara, the ongoing postal strike has already caused a financial loss of nearly Rs. 140 million.
Despite the disruption, he noted that the backlog of postal bags at the Colombo Central Mail Exchange is now being distributed to minimize public inconvenience.
Treasury Will Not Release Funds for Strikers
Commenting further, the Postmaster General said that funds for salary payments must be obtained from the Treasury. However, the Treasury has refused to release money for employees participating in the strike.
He emphasized:
“Only those who have reported for duty are likely to receive their salaries. Striking employees have also been informed to report for duty today.”
