Suspect Arrested Over False Claims of LTTE Training Camp in Akkarayankulam

A 46-year-old man has been arrested by Sri Lanka Police’s Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) over allegations that he circulated unverified information claiming that an LTTE training camp was operating within the Akkarayankulam-Palai Reserve.

Police said the suspect allegedly shared a video on social media containing unsubstantiated claims about the existence of an LTTE training facility in the area.

The suspect, a resident of Bellanwila, Boralesgamuwa, was taken into custody by officers attached to the TID following investigations into the circulation of the video.

Suspect to Be Produced Before Court

According to Police, the suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court today.

Authorities said legal action is expected to be initiated against him under relevant provisions of the Sri Lanka Penal Code and the Police Ordinance.

Police are continuing investigations into the circulation of the alleged false information and the circumstances surrounding the social media post.

The authorities have urged the public to exercise caution when sharing information on social media, particularly claims relating to national security, and to verify such information through official sources before circulating it.
