A tragic shooting incident has occurred in the Doowamodera area of Kosgoda, where a 23-year-old youth was shot dead early this morning (31 July), police confirmed.
According to Police Media Spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) F.U. Wootler, the shooting took place around 5.30 a.m. The assailants, two unidentified individuals, arrived on a motorcycle and carried out the attack.
Preliminary police investigations revealed that a T-56 assault rifle was used in the shooting.
The deceased has been identified as Aruth Mendis, son of the owner of a local turtle center, according to an Ada Derana news reporter.
Kosgoda Police have launched a full investigation into the incident, and further details are expected as inquiries progress.
