Bay of Bengal Earthquake Has No Impact on Sri Lanka
The Bay of Bengal earthquake reported early this morning has no impact on Sri Lanka, according to the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau (GSMB).

The earthquake, which struck near the Andaman and Nicobar Islands at 12:11 a.m., registered a magnitude of 6.3. The National Center for Seismology in India reported the quake’s depth as 10 kilometers, with the epicenter located at Latitude 6.82 N, Longitude 93.37 E.
Although several strong aftershocks followed the initial tremor, no loss of life or property damage was reported.
Deepani Weerakoon, Director General of the GSMB, confirmed that the earthquake occurred 260 kilometers away from Sri Lanka. She noted that it was recorded at a magnitude of 6.6 on Sri Lanka’s Richter scale, but no threat or impact was observed on the island.
Authorities continue to monitor seismic activity in the region, but there is no cause for concern for Sri Lanka at this time.
