GMOA Warns of Island-Wide Strike Over Transfer Issues
The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has announced plans for an island-wide strike if their demands, including the implementation of doctors’ transfers, are not addressed by August 11.

Speaking at a press briefing, Dr. Hansamal Weerasuriya, Assistant Secretary of the GMOA, said the association has given ample time to the Ministry of Health to resolve the matter, but officials have failed to act.
“If there is no proper intervention from the Ministry of Health regarding the unresolved transfer list issues, the Central Committee of the GMOA has decided to proceed with a countrywide strike,” Dr. Weerasuriya stated.
He further emphasized that the GMOA has engaged in continuous dialogue with the Ministry and warned that if no constructive steps are taken by 8:00 a.m. on August 11, doctors across the island will withdraw from services in protest.
The GMOA reiterated its call for immediate action to avoid disruption to the healthcare system and urged the Ministry to engage responsibly.
