Former Prison Officer Shot Dead Near Bolgoda Bridge
Police have released further details about the Bolgoda Bridge shooting that took place in the Bandaragama Police Division last evening (21).

The victim has been identified as 57-year-old Lalith Kumara Kodagoda, a former prison officer and resident of Panadura.
Shooting Incident
According to police reports, Kodagoda was traveling in a car near the Bolgoda Bridge when two unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire. He was killed instantly at the scene.
Preliminary investigations indicate that a T-56 assault rifle may have been used in the attack, with more than 20 rounds fired at the victim.
Possible Motive
The motive behind the shooting has not yet been officially confirmed. However, police noted that Kodagoda had previously been charged with aiding and abetting the murder of underworld figure ‘Samayan’ by acting as an informant. He had been released on bail in that case.
Investigators suspect that the killing may have been carried out as an act of revenge related to the earlier murder.
The Bandaragama Police have launched a full investigation to apprehend the suspects.
