Anura Kumara Dissanayake concludes state visit to Maldives
Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s state visit to the Maldives concluded last night (July 30), marking the end of a three-day diplomatic mission aimed at strengthening bilateral ties. The visit was made at the invitation of Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu and took place from July 28 to 30.

During the visit, President Dissanayake held high-level discussions with President Muizzu, Cabinet Ministers, and senior Maldivian officials. These talks focused on bilateral, regional, and international cooperation, emphasizing shared interests and mutual development.
Two significant agreements were signed: a Mutual Legal Assistance Agreement and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Bandaranaike Diplomatic Training Institute and the Foreign Service Institute of Maldives. These are expected to enhance cooperation in criminal justice and diplomatic training.
The Maldivian President hosted a state banquet at the Kurumba Resort to honor the Sri Lankan delegation. President Dissanayake also planted a ceremonial tree at Sultan Park in Male to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Sri Lanka–Maldives diplomatic relations.
In addition to political engagements, Dissanayake addressed a Sri Lanka–Maldives Business Forum, encouraging trade and investment opportunities. He also met with the Sri Lankan community in the Maldives, reaffirming the government’s commitment to protecting Sri Lankan citizens abroad.
President Dissanayake was accompanied by Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath and senior government officials. Both nations reiterated their commitment to further deepen diplomatic, economic, and people-to-people ties, building on six decades of cooperation.
