Chinese Ambassador Qi Zhenhong Says China’s Growth Will Bring Global Prosperity
Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Qi Zhenhong has stated that China’s continued development will contribute to global peace and prosperity, highlighting Beijing’s vision of its role in international affairs.

Speaking at an event in Colombo to mark the 99th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), Ambassador Qi said, “The stronger China grows, the more peaceful the world will become. The more China develops, the more prosperous the world gets.”
The event also served as an opportunity for the Ambassador to deliver a farewell message as his diplomatic tenure in Sri Lanka approaches its conclusion.
China Highlights PLA’s Role in National Development
Representing the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka, Ambassador Qi paid tribute to the PLA and expressed appreciation to those who have supported China’s national defence development and military modernisation efforts.
He noted that the year marks several important milestones for China, including the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, the 90th anniversary of the victory of the Long March, and the beginning of the country’s 15th Five-Year Plan.
Reflecting on China’s progress, Qi attributed the country’s achievements to the leadership of the Communist Party of China and highlighted efforts to modernise the PLA under the guidance of President Xi Jinping’s military vision.
China Emphasises International Cooperation
The Ambassador said the PLA has continued improving military equipment, restructuring forces and strengthening capabilities to safeguard national security while contributing to international peace and stability.
Addressing global challenges, Qi said China remains committed to supporting the United Nations-centred international system, international law and the principles of the UN Charter.
He added that China’s foreign policy is based on non-alignment, non-confrontation and avoiding actions targeted at third parties, while promoting multilateral cooperation and fairness in international relations.
PLA’s International Role
Ambassador Qi highlighted the PLA’s participation in international activities, including United Nations peacekeeping operations, counterterrorism cooperation and anti-piracy missions.
He said recent developments have shown that China’s growth benefits not only its own citizens but also the wider international community.
Strengthening China-Sri Lanka Defence Relations
Speaking about bilateral relations, Qi said defence ties between China and Sri Lanka have continued to strengthen through defence consultations, training programmes, equipment cooperation and technical exchanges.
“As always, China stands ready to work with Sri Lanka to build strategic trust and continue to firmly support each other,” he said.
The Ambassador added that both countries would continue building on past achievements to further strengthen their longstanding friendship.
Ambassador Bids Farewell to Sri Lanka
The event held special significance as Ambassador Qi prepares to conclude his mission in Sri Lanka.
“My wife and I are quite moved. I would like to take this opportunity to bid farewell to you all,” he told attendees.
Recalling his arrival in Sri Lanka in October 2020, Qi said he valued the time spent in what he described as a beautiful and friendly country.
“Although my mission here is drawing to a close, my affection for Sri Lankan people and my dear friends will never fade,” he said.
The Ambassador expressed confidence that Sri Lanka and China would continue strengthening their traditional friendship while wishing Sri Lanka continued prosperity and development.
