Five Chinese Nationals Arrested at BIA Over Suspected Cybercrime Links
Five Chinese nationals suspected of attempting to enter Sri Lanka for cybercrime-related activities were arrested today (13) by Immigration and Emigration Department officers at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Katunayake.

The suspects arrived from Bangkok, Thailand, at 10:30 a.m. on SriLankan Airlines flight UL-405. Upon arrival, they were flagged for additional checks and referred to the Chief Immigration and Emigration Officer due to suspicions about their visit.
Investigations revealed that the group claimed they were coming to work for a company based in Colombo Port City, presenting valid residence visas. However, when a senior company official was questioned, he could not clearly explain the nature of their work or purpose of stay.
Further checks exposed inconsistencies in the job invitation letters. Authorities also discovered that the individuals had previously worked for suspicious companies in Cambodia and the Philippines—countries known for cybercrime activities.
Following these findings, the Immigration and Emigration Department decided to deport all five Chinese nationals, handing them over to SriLankan Airlines for immediate removal from the country.
