Court Orders Gotabaya Rajapaksa to Give Evidence in Lalith and Kugan Disappearance Case

COLOMBO: Former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has been ordered to appear before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court on the 29th and provide evidence via an online link to the Jaffna Magistrate’s Court in connection with the case concerning the alleged abduction and disappearance of Lalith Kumar Weeraraj and Kugan Muruganandan.

The order was issued when the case was taken up before Jaffna Chief Magistrate S. Lenin Kumar today.

According to the court proceedings, Rajapaksa is required to appear before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court and give evidence remotely to the Jaffna Magistrate’s Court.

The case concerns the alleged abduction and subsequent disappearance of Lalith Kumar Weeraraj and Kugan Muruganandan, who were reportedly abducted in the Avarangal area of Jaffna on December 10, 2011.

At the time of their alleged disappearance, Gotabaya Rajapaksa was serving as Secretary to the Ministry of Defence.

The case has continued through the courts as authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of the two men.

The latest order marks a significant development in the long-running case, with the former President now expected to provide evidence as part of the ongoing judicial proceedings.
