Cabinet Approves Program for Productive Use of Abandoned and Underutilized Government Buildings
The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a comprehensive program to address the underutilization of government-owned buildings, including those that are abandoned or partially constructed. This initiative aims to ensure these buildings are put to productive use for the benefit of the public.

The Treasury, in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Council, and Local Government, has collected data from Divisional Secretariat divisions about government buildings that are currently not being used effectively. These buildings, constructed by various government institutions, are either abandoned, underutilized, or only partially completed.
In response, the Cabinet has instructed the relevant ministries and institutions to prepare and implement a program that will facilitate the effective use of these buildings. The program will be launched after a report is submitted by the President, acting in his capacity as Minister of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development.
The report will provide detailed information on the physical condition of the 2,972 identified buildings, enabling a strategic approach to their redevelopment and use.
