Grand Jury Investigation Launched into Obama-Era Intelligence on Russia Probe
U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi has ordered federal prosecutors to launch a grand jury investigation into allegations that former President Barack Obama’s administration manipulated intelligence concerning Russia’s interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

The decision follows claims made by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, who alleged a misuse of the U.S. intelligence apparatus during the final year of the Obama administration. According to the Justice Department, a special strike force has been established to examine the “alleged weaponization of the intelligence community.”
The investigation, first reported by Fox News, is expected to include legal proceedings led by an unnamed federal prosecutor. The prosecutor will reportedly present evidence to a grand jury, which could decide on issuing indictments if the Justice Department proceeds with formal charges.
President Donald Trump welcomed the news, posting on Truth Social: “The TRUTH always wins out. This is great news.” Trump has long alleged—without offering proof—that the Obama administration orchestrated efforts to link his campaign to Russian interference, calling it “treason.”
A spokesperson for former President Obama dismissed the accusations as “bizarre” and “a weak attempt at distraction.”
Gabbard, who has released declassified documents, claims they point to a “treasonous conspiracy” by senior Obama officials to undermine Trump’s 2016 campaign. Democrats have rejected these claims, labeling them as politically motivated and unfounded.
The U.S. intelligence community’s 2017 report concluded that Russia interfered in the 2016 election via social media campaigns, hacking, and bot networks in an effort to harm Hillary Clinton’s campaign and boost Trump’s. However, the assessment found no evidence that the interference altered the outcome of the election.
Russia has consistently denied involvement in any U.S. election interference.
