Parliament to Refer 8 Institutions Linked to Corruption Allegations to CIABOC

The Sri Lanka Parliament is scheduled to seek approval today to forward information regarding institutions identified in connection with alleged corruption and fraud during investigations conducted by the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).

The relevant parliamentary debate will be held today from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Chairman of COPE and Member of Parliament Nishantha Samaraweera said that information relating to eight institutions will be submitted under the first phase of the process.

Parliament Session Today

Parliament is scheduled to commence proceedings at 9:30 a.m. under the chairmanship of Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne.

During today’s session, MPs will also debate the decision on whether to refer the Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) report regarding the programme to issue permits for the importation of fully electric vehicles for Sri Lankans employed overseas to the Attorney General.

Other Parliamentary Matters

A motion for the adjournment of the House regarding the activities and performance of the Committee on Public Petitions of the Tenth Parliament is also scheduled to be debated today.

The move to submit COPE findings to CIABOC is expected to strengthen investigations into alleged financial irregularities and ensure further action is taken where evidence of wrongdoing is identified.
