Sri Lanka Navy Rescues Six Abandoned by Human Traffickers off Talaimannar
The Sri Lanka Navy has rescued six Sri Lankans who were abandoned by human traffickers in the seas off Talaimannar.
According to the Navy, the group had been transported illegally from India by sea and later deserted near the Sand Dunes area of Talaimannar. Acting on credible information, SLNS Thammanna of the North Central Naval Command launched a search operation in the area.

The individuals were discovered stranded on a remote sand dune, suffering from severe dehydration. They were identified as residents of Vavuniya, Madhu, and Kokkadicholai, aged between eight and 56 years.
The rescued persons have been handed over to the Talaimannar Police for further legal proceedings.
Authorities said the operation highlights the dangers of illegal human smuggling networks, which continue to exploit vulnerable individuals attempting to migrate.
