Sri Lanka Weather Alert: Amber Advisory Issued for Strong Winds in Several Areas

The Department of Meteorology Sri Lanka has issued an Amber weather advisory warning of strong winds affecting several provinces and districts across the country.

The advisory, issued today (July 7), will remain valid until 11.00 p.m. tomorrow (July 8).

According to the Meteorological Department, strong winds reaching speeds of around 40–50 kmph may occur at times in the following areas:

  • Central Province
  • Sabaragamuwa Province
  • Northern Province
  • North Central Province
  • North Western Province
  • Hambantota District
  • Trincomalee District

The department stated that the windy conditions are expected due to the active southwest monsoon conditions currently affecting Sri Lanka.

The public has been advised to remain alert and pay attention to future weather updates and advisories issued by the Department of Meteorology.

Authorities have also urged residents in affected areas to take necessary precautions, especially those engaged in outdoor activities and coastal or elevated regions where wind conditions may intensify.
