Indian National Arrested at Bandaranaike Airport with Heroin Worth Rs. 34 Million

A 32-year-old Indian national was arrested at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) on October 26 for attempting to smuggle 2.832 kilograms of heroin, valued at Rs. 34 million, into Sri Lanka. The suspect arrived from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, aboard SriLankan Airlines flight UL-315.

During routine checks, officers from the Narcotics Control Division of Sri Lanka Customs discovered the heroin concealed inside the passenger’s luggage. Investigations revealed that the suspect, visiting Sri Lanka for the first time, intended to deliver the drugs to a local dealer at a hotel in Bambalapitiya.

The heroin and the suspect were handed over to the Airport Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigation. The suspect is set to appear before the Negombo Magistrate’s Court today, where authorities plan to request a detention order for additional questioning.
