Schools Closed in Kandy and Nuwara Eliya Amid Heavy Rainfall

Authorities have declared a holiday for all schools in the Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts today due to the prevailing heavy rainy weather affecting the Central Province.

The decision was taken on the instructions of the Chief Secretary of the Central Province as adverse weather conditions continue to impact several areas.

University of Peradeniya Suspends Academic Activities

Meanwhile, the University of Peradeniya has temporarily suspended all academic activities until further notice, effective from yesterday, in response to the ongoing heavy rainfall.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Terrence Madhujith stated that the decision was taken with the safety and well-being of students and staff in mind.

Students who are able to travel safely have been permitted to return to their hometowns, while those unable to leave can continue to stay in the university hostels until normal academic activities resume.

Authorities Prioritize Public Safety

The closures come as heavy rainfall continues to affect parts of Sri Lanka, prompting authorities to take precautionary measures to minimize risks to students and educational institutions.

Residents in affected areas are advised to remain alert to weather advisories issued by the relevant authorities and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall.
