Chinese Embassy Confirms Viral Letter to Sri Lankan Media Is Fake
The Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka has confirmed that a letter circulating widely on social media, appearing to be from the Chinese Ambassador and addressed to local media organisations, is a fabrication.

The letter, dated August 1, 2025, and titled “Serious Concerns Over Misleading Media Coverage of Chinese Enterprises,” has been shared across various platforms. It includes the Chinese Embassy’s official letterhead, the Ambassador’s purported signature, and even the embassy seal.
The fake letter allegedly raised concerns over media reports regarding the import and customs clearance of electric vehicles manufactured by a Chinese company.
However, when contacted by Ada Derana, the Chinese Embassy in Colombo categorically denied the authenticity of the letter and confirmed that it was a fake.
The Embassy has not yet announced whether any legal action will be taken against the circulation of the forged document.
