Pre-Budget Discussion on Banking, Finance and Insurance Sector Held at Presidential Secretariat

A pre-budget discussion on the Banking, Finance and Insurance Sector took place at the Presidential Secretariat, chaired by the Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando.

The session focused on how the banking sector can support the government’s programme, led by the President, to achieve the country’s economic growth targets. Representatives from banking, finance, and insurance presented their views and proposals, according to the President’s Media Division (PMD).

Key Discussion Points

Special attention was given to:

  • Enhancing efficiency in the financial sector through digitalization
  • Expanding programmes for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)
  • Introducing new insurance schemes to support economic development

Dr. Fernando emphasized that these proposals will be considered in the upcoming budget.

Inclusion of Insurance Sector

For the first time, stakeholders from the insurance sector were invited to a pre-budget discussion. Participants expressed appreciation to the government for extending the invitation, highlighting the importance of inclusive policymaking.
