Cabinet Approves Reduction of Insurance Coverage for Members of Parliament

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal to reduce the insurance coverage limit for Members of Parliament from Rs. 1 million to Rs. 250,000.

Previously, at a Cabinet meeting on May 15, 2023, a group insurance policy was implemented granting MPs a maximum coverage of Rs. 1 million per parliamentary year.

However, during the 2025 Budget Speech, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake proposed lowering this insurance limit to Rs. 250,000.

Following the proposal, the Cabinet approved the revised coverage limit, which will take effect from the insurance year starting on October 9, 2025.
