CEB Trade Unions Warn of Intensified Action Amid Restructuring Dispute

Electricity trade unions have warned that they will escalate their ongoing trade union actions if their demands continue to be ignored by authorities.

The unions launched a work-to-rule campaign on September 4, protesting what they allege is the arbitrary restructuring of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).

As part of the campaign, employees staged a sick leave protest on Tuesday (17), which continued into a second consecutive day today (18).

Kosala Abeysinghe, President of the CEB Technician’s Union, stated that if authorities fail to respond positively, the unions are prepared to intensify their trade union action in the coming days.

The dispute continues to raise concerns over potential disruptions to electricity services, as talks between the unions and the government remain unresolved.
