Gampaha to Colombo Private Bus Services Suspended Over Stop Restrictions
Gampaha to Colombo private bus services suspended today as a protest erupted over newly imposed restrictions on stopping points along key routes. The Gampaha Private Bus Owners’ Association announced the indefinite suspension, citing serious operational difficulties due to the ban on stopping at selected locations in Colombo and other areas.

According to the association, these restrictions are directly affecting both commuters and bus operators, leading to reduced passenger pickup opportunities and revenue loss. The bus owners argue that without access to essential halting points, services become inefficient and unsustainable.
Many passengers were left stranded this morning, with limited warning about the sudden halt in services. The association stressed that the decision was not taken lightly but was necessary to push for fair treatment from transport authorities.
Bus operators demand immediate talks with relevant officials to restore the previous stop points and find a workable solution. Until then, services between Gampaha, Colombo, and other destinations will remain suspended.
