INS Tarangini Arrives in Sri Lanka for Joint Naval Training

The Indian Navy’s Sail Training Ship INS Tarangini is scheduled to arrive in Trincomalee from tomorrow until March 02, before proceeding to Colombo from March 06 to March 09, the High Commission of India in Colombo said.

The visit aims to provide ocean sailing training and hands-on experience to Sri Lanka Navy trainee officers during both the harbour and sea phases.

INS Tarangini, commanded by Commander Nitin Gajjar, is currently on its return passage from Visakhapatnam after participating in the International Fleet Review 2026.

The Indian Navy is among the few navies worldwide that continue to operate sail training ships in the modern era dominated by engines and gas turbines.

During its port call at Trincomalee, INS Tarangini will embark three officers and 25 trainee officers from the Sri Lanka Navy for ocean sailing training while sailing to Colombo.
