Sahaspura Shooting: Three More Arrested, Death Toll Rises to Two
Three suspects have been arrested for allegedly aiding and abetting the recent Sahaspura shooting in Borella, which has now claimed two lives and left three others injured, police confirmed.

The arrested suspects, aged 24, 25, and 40, are residents of Borella and Dematagoda. This brings the total arrests in connection with the incident to four. On Saturday (9), police also detained a 23-year-old Borella resident for aiding and abetting the crime. He remains in custody under a three-day detention order for questioning.
The shooting occurred around 8:40 p.m. on Thursday (7) near the Sahaspura Sirisara Housing Complex. Two unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire with a T-56 assault rifle at a group of youths decorating the sports ground. The attackers fled the scene on the same motorcycle.
Five youths sustained injuries in the attack. A 28-year-old from Kelaniya died the following morning, while three others were in critical condition. Another victim, aged 23, succumbed to his injuries last night (10) at the Colombo National Hospital, raising the death toll to two. Three others remain hospitalised with gunshot wounds.
Police have taken statements from more than 10 witnesses and continue investigations to identify the shooters.
