Sri Lanka Education Council Report Approved by Parliamentary Committee

The final report containing recommendations for the establishment of an Education Council in Sri Lanka has been approved by the Ministerial Consultative Committee on Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education.

The approval was granted during a committee meeting held at Parliament under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya.

The report was presented to the Consultative Committee by Deputy Minister Mahinda Jayasinghe, who headed the sub-committee appointed to study and develop recommendations for the proposed Education Council.

The report includes observations and proposals prepared by a panel of experts appointed to formulate a framework for establishing the new education body.

During the meeting, members of the Ministerial Consultative Committee reviewed the recommendations and provided their views and suggestions regarding the proposed structure and functions of the council.

Following extensive discussions, the final report received approval from the committee, marking an important step towards establishing the proposed Education Council.

The council is expected to play a key role in improving coordination, strengthening education policy development, and supporting long-term planning across Sri Lanka’s education sector, including school education, higher education, and vocational training.

The initiative is aimed at creating a more coordinated approach to education reforms and ensuring future education policies are developed through expert guidance and structured planning.
