Sri Lanka Reports 1,025 New Dengue Cases in 24 Hours; Death Toll Rises to 50
Sri Lanka has recorded 1,025 new dengue cases within the past 24 hours, according to the National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU), as health authorities continue to battle the country’s worsening dengue outbreak.
The NDCU said the number of dengue-related deaths reported so far this year has increased to 50.
The Gampaha and Colombo districts continue to report the highest number of infections, remaining the most affected areas in the country.
Health officials also revealed that 17,051 dengue cases have been reported across Sri Lanka during the first 15 days of this month, highlighting the rapid spread of the mosquito-borne disease.
According to the National Dengue Control Unit, 175 Medical Officer of Health (MOH) divisions across the island have now been identified as high-risk dengue zones.
Authorities continue to urge the public to eliminate mosquito breeding sites, maintain clean surroundings, and seek immediate medical attention if symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, muscle pain, or persistent vomiting develop.
The Ministry of Health is continuing nationwide dengue prevention and awareness programmes while intensifying inspections and vector control measures in high-risk areas to curb the spread of the disease.
