Sri Lanka Dengue Cases Exceed 62,000 as Western Province Reports Highest Infections

More than 62,000 dengue cases have been reported across Sri Lanka so far this year, according to the National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU).
Acting Director of the NDCU, Dr. Kapila Kannangara, stated that 7,038 dengue cases have been recorded during the month of July alone, highlighting the continued spread of the mosquito-borne disease across the country.
The Western Province has reported the highest number of dengue infections, accounting for 52.4% of the total cases recorded nationwide.
Among the districts, Colombo District has recorded the highest number of dengue cases with 12,663 infections.
The highest reported cases by district are as follows:
- Colombo District – 12,663 cases
- Gampaha District – 12,582 cases
- Kalutara District – 4,191 cases
Health authorities have continued to urge the public to take preventive measures to control the spread of dengue, including eliminating mosquito breeding grounds and maintaining clean surroundings.
The increase in dengue cases remains a major public health concern, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall and changing weather conditions, which create favourable environments for mosquito breeding.
The National Dengue Control Unit has advised residents to remain vigilant and follow health guidelines to reduce the risk of further infections.
