18 Devotees Killed in Bus-Truck Collision in India’s Jharkhand
A tragic bus-truck collision in Jharkhand, India, claimed the lives of at least 18 devotees early Tuesday morning (July 29), while several others were injured, according to local authorities.

The accident occurred around 4:30 a.m. during the Shravani Mela, a major Hindu pilgrimage season. The bus, filled with devotees en route to offer sacred water at the Baba Baidyanath Dham temple, collided with a truck carrying cooking gas cylinders.
Emergency services, including police, ambulance teams, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), responded swiftly. Many passengers were trapped inside the mangled wreckage, requiring urgent rescue efforts.
The injured victims were transported to nearby primary health centers and Deoghar Sadar Hospital. Authorities report that several remain in critical condition.
Officials are working to verify the identities of the deceased, and post-mortem examinations are currently underway.
