Traffic Restrictions on Colombo–Kandy Road for Ambepussa Deva Perahera
Vehicular movement along the Colombo–Kandy Road will be restricted this evening (28) due to the Deva Perahera at the ancient Sri Paththini Dewalaya in Ambepussa, Warakapola.

The procession begins at 6 p.m., starting from the Ambepussa Dewalaya Junction and proceeding towards Kandy. The route includes Ambepussa Junction, Mahena Divisional Secretariat junction, and Mahena bend, before returning to the temple along the same road, police confirmed.
Authorities have warned of heavy traffic congestion along the Colombo–Kandy Road during the procession and have requested motorists to use the following alternative routes:
- Colombo to Kandy:
- Turn off at Pasyala Junction, proceed via Nittambuwa–Giriulla Road to Mirigama, then use the expressway towards Kurunegala or Kandy.
- Alternatively, turn at Weweldeniya Junction, proceed via Weweldeniya–Mirigama Road, and access the expressway from Mirigama to reach Kurunegala or Kandy.
- Kandy to Colombo:
- Turn off at Nelundeniya Junction and use the Nelundeniya–Alawwa Road as an alternative route.
The police have urged the public to plan their journeys accordingly to minimize delays.
