Rs. 20 Million Mobile Phones and Cardamom Smuggling Attempt Foiled at BIA

An individual has been arrested at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) while attempting to smuggle mobile phones and cardamom worth Rs. 20 million into Sri Lanka.
The suspect was caught this morning (28) by customs officers while trying to pass through the airport’s Green Channel.
Upon inspecting his six pieces of luggage, officials discovered 165 mobile phones and 102 kilograms of cardamom hidden inside.
The suspect, a 36-year-old businessman from Colombo, was immediately taken into custody.
Authorities confirmed that further investigations are underway to determine the source and intended recipients of the smuggled goods.
