Former IGP C.D. Wickramaratne’s Final Rites Tomorrow as Investigations Continue

The body of former Inspector General of Police (IGP) C.D. Wickramaratne will lie in state at a private funeral parlour in Borella from today, with the final rites scheduled to be held tomorrow afternoon at the Borella Cemetery.

Sri Lanka Police said the former IGP’s mortal remains have been sent to the Government Analyst’s Department for further examinations as part of the ongoing investigation into his death.

Investigators have also taken C.D. Wickramaratne’s mobile phone into police custody. Authorities said a court order will be obtained before the device undergoes forensic examination.

The pistol believed to have been used by the former IGP has also been seized by police and will be forwarded to the Government Analyst for forensic analysis.

As part of the investigation, statements have been recorded from the former IGP’s spouse and the three police officers assigned to his personal security.

Former IGP C.D. Wickramaratne died from a gunshot wound at his residence in Thalahena on Friday morning. He was 63 years old.

According to Sri Lanka Police, investigations are being conducted by the Western Province South Special Investigation Unit and the Malabe Police under the instructions of Inspector General of Police Attorney-at-Law Priyantha Weerasooriya.

Authorities have stated that further investigations are continuing to establish all circumstances surrounding the former IGP’s death.
